Waveguide design
An acoustically reflective ring can be optionally installed. It surrounds the driver and directs the pressure waves in a frontal direction.
From right to left in the photo:
- There is a more horn-shaped one, which has a larger effective radius but also a somewhat sharper slope.
- The middle one has a nice radial rounding. This ensures that the pressure waves have a more even distribution outward and even slightly to the rear.
These two are made of brown-core maple wood.
- The right side of the photo shows the same profile as the middle one, but made of a very attractive, futuristic clear acrylic (PPMA). This material is very stiff, which definitely affects the acoustics.
The final addition to the waveguides is the triangular maple wood waveguide. Its non-circular shape reduces hot spots and resonances.
The new waveguides all feature magnetic mounting so there are no cutouts visible or audible at the front.a
